WHO WE ARE
Founded in 1999, Maryland Coalition of Families (MCF) is a statewide nonprofit with a central office in Columbia, Md., and staff located in communities throughout the state.  Using personal experience as parents, caregivers, youth and other loved ones, we connect, support and empower Maryland’s families. Our staff provide one-to-one support to parents and caregivers of young people with mental health issues and to any loved one who cares for someone with a substance use or gambling issue. We also advocate to improve systems that impact individuals with behavioral health challenges.  

OVERVIEW
The Maryland Coalition of Families (MCF) has a part-time (20 hour/week) employment opportunity for a Coordinator of Caregiver Engagement for Child Welfare.  With the goal of incorporating the experience and perspectives of caregivers in its efforts to improve services, Maryland's Department of Human Services has funded MCF to hire a Coordinator who will recruit, oversee and organize a group of caregivers of youth who are involved with Maryland's child welfare system.  The Coordinator will support the caregivers as they participate in a series of workgroups, committee meetings, document reviews and focus groups related to the work of the Social Services Administration (SSA).  The Coordinator must have personal, lived experience as the primary caregiver (biological or adoptive parent or relative) of a child, adolescent or young adult who has been involved in Maryland's child welfare system.  This position will report to MCF's Director of Policy.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the identification and recruitment of a diverse group of caregivers to participate in workgroups, committee meetings, document reviews and focus groups.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a curriculum to train caregivers.
  • Partner with SSA to coordinate and schedule trainings and other events for their staff.
  • Facilitate communication between SSA and MCF, and between MCF and participating caregivers.
  • Attend all assigned SSA workgroups and committees, most of which will be located in Baltimore City.
  • Coordinate and schedule caregivers to attend various SSA workgroups and committees.
  • Attend all focus groups held with families with SSA involvement and assist as needed.
  • Review materials and policies from SSA and provide input and feedback as requested.
  • Oversee the participation of caregivers in reviewing materials and policies from SSA and providing input and feedback as requested.
  • Oversee and track the hours and compensation of participating caregivers.
  • Provide information for reports.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Personal, lived experience as a primary caregiver (biological or adoptive parent or relative) of a youth, adolescent or young adult who has been involved in Maryland's child welfare system.
  • Prior experience in project and/or event coordination.
  • Willingness and strong ability to build and maintain partnerships with agencies and providers.
  • Active listening skills for providing non-judgmental support and increasing engagement of families.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to learn how to use a database (Salesforce).
  • Current Maryland driver’s license and access to own vehicle; in-state travel required. 
  • Successful completion of a background check (required for all MCF employees). 

Hours/Compensation:

  • 20 hours/week.
  • Flexible work schedule with some telecommuting expected.
  • Salary commensurate with experience. Salary range $15-19 per hour.
