Who We Are
Founded in 1999, Maryland Coalition of Families (MCF) is a statewide nonprofit with a central office in Columbia, Md., and staff located in communities throughout the state. Using personal experience as parents, caregivers, youth and other loved ones, we connect, support and empower Maryland’s families. Our staff provide one-to-one support to parents and caregivers of young people with mental health issues and to any loved one who cares for someone with a substance use or gambling issue. We also advocate to improve systems that impact individuals with behavioral health challenges.

Overview
MCF is looking for an energetic and committed individual to serve as the Health Promotion Intern. This internship is available from January or February 2019 through May 2019 and can be structured to be between 20 and 40 hours per week. The Intern will provide comprehensive support in the planning, promotion, execution, and evaluation of the Children’s Mental Health Matters! campaign. This Maryland state campaign brings together more than 500 nonprofits, schools, agencies and other partners with the goal of raising public awareness of the importance of children’s mental health. The Campaign also intends to reduce the stigma of mental health, let parents know that they are not alone in caring for children with mental health needs, and connects families throughout Maryland with information and services to help their children.
This is an excellent position for a highly organized, enthusiastic, detail-oriented individual who is interested in gaining experience participating in many aspects of planning and implementing a statewide public awareness campaign. Depending on their interests, the Intern will have an opportunity to be involved with other MCF programs and initiatives. The Intern will be supervised by MCF’s Director of Social Marketing and Outreach, a highly experienced communications and events professional.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conducts research to identify potential Campaign partners in local communities throughout Maryland.
Outreaches to, and corresponds with, Campaign partners and potential partners to encourage participation in the 2019 Campaign.
Collaborates with the Director of Social Marketing and Outreach to develop content for materials including the Campaign newsletter and social media posts.
Assists in compilation and distribution of Campaign materials for use by community partners.

Qualifications
Completed coursework focusing in health science, health promotion, community health, public health, and/or communication.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite applications, internet research and social media.
Interested in MCF’s mission and enthusiasm about working within a nonprofit organization.

Time Commitment
This position can be adapted to meet the educational requirements of the student, with a minimum time commitment of 20 hours per week and a maximum of 40 hours per week. Work schedule can be flexible and telecommuting for some hours may be possible. A stipend may be available.
