Who We Are

Founded in 1999, Maryland Coalition of Families (MCF) is a statewide nonprofit with a central office in Columbia, Md., and staff located in communities throughout the state.  Using personal experience as parents, caregivers, youth and other loved ones, we connect, support and empower Maryland’s families. Our staff provide one-to-one support to parents and caregivers of young people with mental health issues and to any loved one who cares for someone with a substance use or gambling issue. We also advocate to improve systems that impact individuals with behavioral health challenges. 

Overview

MCF has a career opportunity for a collaborative, enthusiastic marketing generalist. The Manager of Marketing and Communications will serve on MCF’s state-wide leadership team and hold responsibility for the development, implementation and analysis of branding, communications, marketing and outreach. The Manager will increase engagement from a variety of internal and external stakeholders in support of MCF’s direct service, training, public awareness, public policy and advocacy work.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage MCF’s website, microsites, and related sites (ex: Taking Flight youth programming website)  using best practices, including search engine optimization and ensuring the site can be accessed from a variety of mobile devices. Develop new web pages, make updates and additions, write and edit content and work with external vendors, if needed, to shift architecture and design. Monitor website use.
  • Manage MCF’s social media platforms to include writing/editing/publishing/curating relevant content.
  • Manage MCF mass and targeted e-communications and e-newsletters using Pardot, Outlook and/or other tools.
  • Develop communication materials, brochures, flyers, fact sheets, annual reports and other print and digital collateral used for branding, marketing and outreach. Write original content and/or solicit, assimilate and edit content from others.
  • Implement communications, marketing and outreach strategies for MCF initiatives including the annual statewide Children’s Mental Health Awareness Campaign (in collaboration with the Mental Health Administration of Maryland), the annual Advocacy Day (Family Day in Annapolis), Recovery Month (substance use), Problem Gambling Awareness Month, and programs including the Family Leadership programs. Analyze and provide written reports of goals, tasks and outcomes for initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain agency brand through style guides and a portfolio of print and digital communication templates including PowerPoint presentations, flyers, emails, announcements and newsletters.
  • For all communication channels and all initiatives and campaigns, monitor results, analyze and report on data and make recommendations for continual improvements.
  • Maintain agency (original and stock) photo, image and video library; hire and oversee photographers and videographers.
  • Develop and deliver workshops/trainings on a wide variety of communications, marketing and outreach strategies and topics for staff. 
  • Manage external vendor relationships and manage projects with vendors.
  • Prepare and distribute press releases, media alerts and op-eds to highlight MCF leaders and staff, programs and initiatives, trends and accomplishments.
  • Attend relevant agency and community events.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in communications or related field.
  • Minimum three years’ work experience in related field, preferably in nonprofit setting.
  • Collaborative and enthusiastic demeanor with leadership qualities.
  • Mission-driven and highly motivated.
  • Demonstrated skill in writing and editing a wide variety of materials across communication channels.
  • Skill with website management.
  • Experience using a database for communications; preferably Salesforce.
  • Experience using electronic mass communication tools (Pardot, Constant Contact, Mail Chimp)
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and publishing tools such as Microsoft Publisher, Adobe InDesign and/or WordPress.
  • Experience managing social media profiles on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple details simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Media relations experience a plus.
  • Limited in-state travel is required; current Maryland driver’s license and access to own vehicle.
  • Successful completion of a background check (required for all MCF employees).

 

Hours/Compensation

  • 30 hours per week  
  • Compensation: Competitive salary and benefits package
